All appointments must be scheduled online in advance. Our salon only has 2 stylists so walk-in appointments are difficult to accomodate. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We receive many calls regarding openings in our schedule for appointments. However, the schedule that is shown online is synced with the schedule that we have at the salon so it is identical. If you visit our website, you can view the current schedule to book your appointment.

A staff member will send you instructions on what is needed but typically, we will ask for:

1) a photo of your current hair

2) a reference photo of the type of color or perm that you are looking to do

as well as a couple questions regarding your hair history: have you bleached your hair, dyed your hair black, straightened or permed in the past, etc.

Japanese Straightening is a permanent straightening which means that any treated hair will remain permanently straight. However, any new hair that grows after will be your original hair texture.

At our salon, we recommend waiting at least 4 months in between straightening appointments to avoid the risk of damage to the hair. Most people will do touch up appointments every 6~12 months depending on individual hair growth speed.

After the straightening appointment, you cannot wet or wash your hair for 48~72 hours. During this time, please avoid hooking your hair behind your ear or tying your hair back tightly or tying your hair back for prolonged periods of time.

Generally speaking, yes you can.

Please note that if you straighten over colored hair, the hair will be 1~2 tones brighter.

If you use Box Dyes to do self coloring, there will be uneveness in the coloring and application. This will also result in uneven results in the straightening. If you use box dyes, please email the salon (contact@salondefi.com) to do a consulation whether the straightening is doable or not.

If you bleach your hair, you cannot do straightening again until the bleached area grows out long enough that you can cut it off. Even if you were to color over bleached hair, the bleach is still in the hair so straightening afterwards will result in heavy damage or hair breakage.

You can use any brand shampoo after straightening but we recommend using a hair mask to deeply moisturize your hair at least once a week to maintain shine and health for the hair.

If possible, it would be best if you can wash your hair the night before of the morning of your straightening appointment and then dry your hair using a hair dryer.

When you go to the salon for your appointment, please do not straighten your hair with an iron prior. The stylists can start your appointment more smoothly as they need to see and feel the natural texture of your hair.

As long as your hair is healthy, Japanese Straightening is possible, however it will take several hours to complete.

In order to shorten the length of time needed for the appointment, we would recommend that you come to the salon after you have straightened your hair with a straightening iron.

We charge per hour at our salon at $160 an hour for straightening. The length of time necessary will depend on hair length and how strong your natural curls are. Typically, it takes about 3~4 hours to do straightening appointments.

(If you have type 3C, 4A, or 4B hair, it will take about 4~6 hours.)

We recommend leaving at least 4 months in between straightening appointments. If you are looking to do a touch-up appointment, the straightening will be done on the new hair that has grown since your previous appointment. However, please be advised that the length of time will usually only shorten by about 10~15 mins from your hair straightening.
